at its core, the flores family could have been described as one almost picturesque — a doting father who provided for his wife and kids, a mother whose heart flourished and nurtured kindness and warmth. daughters who were well-behaved, thoughtful, and though shy at times, were polite and easy to raise. and for the years in their youth, that is what the family was. warm. loving. trips back and forth between texas, where ramon and carmen flores moved to after having ana, closer to ramons' side — and back to monterrey, nuevo leon, mexico, where most of carmens' family lived, still. little adventures outdoors, going on weekend camping trips all over southern texas, back in monterrey. traveling around on day trips, sight-seeing, visiting rivers and lakes, passing by miles and miles of farmland, stopping to let the young girls wave at the cows grazing in the grass.as the girls grew older, the trips started to slow to a stop, after time. maria and ana were kept in the dark for a while — but, carmen had begun to grew ill, and the sickness festering in her lungs was slowly beginning to take a toll on her. frequent hospital visits started to become the norm, rather than the trips out to campsites and meadows and rivers. carmen wanted to shield their girls' from worry, or being scared — and so, she and ramon kept things quiet for as long as they were able to. and they managed to, for a couple of years. until the sickness started showing too well, and carmen started to miss work. started needing to be home more often, lying down, resting. until maria and anas' little faces peering over at her and ramon from open bedroom door couldn't be waved off with a simple, weakened smile and reassurance.from then on, things start to slowly spiral downhill in the flores home. carmens' condition and health declining as the months passed. ana growing more subdued and quiet, worry and concern finding home in her eyes. maria, biting down the urge to cry most days, instead plastering on smiles, at times bolstering her chirpiness in order to keep mama smiling, to try and not make her worry for them. tried to help keep something like normalcy commonplace within the walls of the flores home.and then there was ramon.ramon, whose schedules at work seemed to slowly pile on more and more assignments for him to stay longer into the later evening hours. started working on typical days off. started leaving money on the table for the girls to be able to run out and grab groceries on the way home from school, rather than bring them in, himself, on his way in. more and more frequently did carmen grow to have to rely on neighbors or family to get her to appointments. to get the girls' to and back from school. more and more often, the driveway where ramons' car would park after work would remain empty into the dead of night. sometimes early morning hours. and then vanish by the time maria and ana were heading out for school in the morning.ramon became a ghost, sometimes days at a time, when maria was in her early teens. and whenever ramon finally did show back up at the home, he would leave silent and angry. and carmen would be holed in her room, where the girls would overhear her. sobbing, in the dark.it took a while, for the truth to finally come out. for a mess of luggage and bags strewn all over their parents' bedroom, for weakened, quiet pleas from carmen meeting stonewalled silence from ramon. for him to finally admit, into the open air at last, that he was seeing others. and he was leaving. that he couldn't do this — stand around in wait for her lung to finally take her. there was no amount of pleading that could have brought on a change of heart in him.ramon had checked out from their marriage when the reality of carmens' illness finally settled in.and just like that, the flores home lost its primary provider. just like that, carmen lost her husband. and just like that, the girls' their father.from that point on, it was infrequent calls from ramon, to check in on them all, from marias' early teens into her later. of waiting beside the phone for hours on days he promised to call, only for it to never ring a single time. of maria, time after time, forcing back the urge to break down to look at ana with a smile and try to reassure her that maybe something just came up, this time. he'll call soon. he promised. more promises, to be there at dance recitals. or to send money to help out for the month. to stop by for a weekend, maybe go out to a campsite or to a hiking trail like they used to. and yet, time after time after time, the phone wouldn't ring. his car wouldn't pull up outside. and time after time after time, maria turned into broken record — she says to try and keep ana from being hurt by him not coming around.mostly, however, to convince herself that his intentions were always good.ana never needed her older sister to parrot the same lines to her. to force a smile across her face and pretend she was alright. maria wasn't the greatest at hiding her feelings. and ana could very well see the hurt and betrayal on her face — just like she could see it on their mamas'. she remained silent, however. biting back the urge to spit acid about their father, every time maria would try to come up with a new half-hearted excuse for his absences. all ana knew, at the end of each day he broke another promise, was just another layer of confirmation that she would never forgive him for what he did. for leaving them. for hurting their mama. for hurting her sister.

UPBRINGING.raph's parents - marcos & salome - were never a married couple. due to her refusal of his several proposals and having raph out of wedlock, their relationship and raph's early years were spent observing a wildfire of hate claimed to be "love".( young raphael had sworn to himself if that is what "love" was supposed to look like, then he never wanted to feel it. )he witnessed the countless arguments, furniture getting smashed and thrown and knocked over across their home, his father towering over his mother, screaming into her face. of his mother hissing back to lower his voice, that raphael is in the room - which only prompted deadly glare in the childs' direction before his mother was dragged off into another room, where voices and crashing turned muffled to raph's ears.by the time raph turned seven, his mother decided to leave. to return back to her family in colombia - partly why she had never accepted his fathers' proposals, he would later learn. she wanted marcos to meet her family first, and he refused every time, claiming he didn't need to until they were married; until she was trapped with him.she packed little and left, after spending a weekend with him. doting on him, taking him wherever he wanted to go. turning away at times, to hide the fact that she was crying.a goodbye - not a see you later. for he has not seen her in person since.( she had believed he would fare better in the states than back home, and she only had enough money to ensure her own return. she wanted to take him - she just hoped he would live better here. )raph didnt hear from her for a number of years ( found out his father hid the letters' she would send; it was fuel he tried to poison him against her with, to claim she abandoned him, forgot about him, didn't care ). but when he had finally discovered the box in his fathers' closet one day, and the stack of pre-opened and read envelopes, raph to a point forgave his mother for her choice.he also learned, through chicken-scratch and undecipherable drawings, that he has a little half-sister - carina.he has yet to meet her in person, still. but, they send letters from time to time. ( there's alot to catch up on, alot to learn, alot to digest. )
ImageTHE WRONG CROWD.he was involved in a wrong crowd kind of friendgroup in his early to mid teens; most being the sons and daughters of his fathers' friends and co-workers - not the greatest bunch themselves.
the group were asshats, to place it plainly - getting into fights, randomly targeting people to harass and attack. breaking into homes, stealing and selling property and valuables stolen from the owners. even stealing some cars here and there.
the only consistently good friend he had was maria, when they had met between the time his mother and her father left, respectively. and he learned this fact the hard way.
maria, in spite of her own home life being rocky at the time, was always there to grant him a space of peace, a place at a dining room table that he didn't need to be tense over if it would be shoved out of the way for his father to go after him.
she was the only avenue where he felt like he could relax and just be himself - the only person at the time he was comfortable with crying in front of ( he had it quite literally lunched and kicked into him that men don't cry - if he cries, his father vowed to give him something to actually cry over. )
but when one of his 'friends' little break-in plan went to the fuckin' shithole - they broke into a sheriff's fucking house, the motherfucker didn't do his research - and raph was held at gunpoint while the others tried to scatter. leaving him there, alone, to be arrested that night.
the others' were eventually caught, even in spite of raph keeping quiet on who he had been with. he ended up in juvie regardless, for several months.lesson learned on who he should place loyalty - when not a damned one of them bothered to go see him.no one except maria, and her mother.raphael was embarrassed for her, having to walk into the building - to have self and bags searched and contents dumped and ripped apart. every single visit ( because she insisted on it, on coming by after school, spending her allotted visitors' time with him. )she did so without complaint. without negative word, without annoyance at being humiliated time and time again, by officers' who'd let her into the visitors area. he kept telling her she didn't need to. and she kept repeating that she wanted to, and didn't want him to be alone in there.and its still a mystery to him, how he ever deserved to have someone like her as a friend.and sometime later, after he had gotten out of juvie, after listening to maria pour her heart out over him - pleaded with him to think of himself and what he wanted for his life, if the people he was around where doing him any good. to please be careful, to not get himself into trouble like he had, where he easily could have been shot and killed - did he finally cut them all off, started to focus on his studies, started to focus on himself - on her and her friendship.( she showed herself countless times to always be in his corner - and he fuckin' needed to prove that he deserved a place in hers for it. )if was her study sessions, her gentle encouragement, everything that brought him to the point of graduating - barely, but he made it. and he credits her for being at his side, getting his shit together.

mid-march marked the last letter that arrived in the mail. her sisters’ penmanship looping their last name and address across sealed envelope, doodle of hydrangeas in the corner, where a return-address would normally be. a trip she’d designated to wildflower hunting, scrawled out across fourteen pages torn from her journal — dated from march seventh through to the morning of the eleventh. telling them of the fields she’d come across, the farms and ranches she drove past and how the cows and horses and sheep lazily grazed in the grasses, little specks so far out from the roadside. how pretty the skies were, in the early mornings at dawn, and how the stars twinkled overhead so brightly, being further away from austin, the cities.that sunday, the eleventh, maria wrote not of the flowers she was searching for, not entirely. sunflowers and marigolds : the final two she had wanted to find, take photographs of. and she’d discovered where she could find them both, conveniently in the same area — thanks to a man she’d met, at a bar, that passing friday. kind. friendly. very talkative, he was, she’d written. asked her so many questions about herself — where she was from, her work and time at university, about her trip and about the flowers she was looking for. handsome, pretty. she liked when he smiled. loved when he laughed.mama had shared a knowing glance at ana, sitting at her beside, as she’d read the letters aloud. a smile warmed her face, brightened tired eyes — ana had returned the smile . . . but a knot settled in her stomach.the days following the letters slowed to a crawl. stealing glances at the clocks on the walls, twisting wrist to peek at watch. minutes stretched like highways off into horizon lines. no new letters came. no calls, either. maria knew to be sure to call, at the very least. given their father. a promise maria had made to her and to mama, years ago, when she’d started going off on her trips on her own. always a phone call.until that evening. standing out on the sidewalk, as cars quietly zipped by. staring at the police cruiser parked curbside at the end of the driveway. hearing all-too-familiar cries of their mother behind closed doors.something violent twisted anas’ stomach into knots. that hollowed, empty sensation creeping up from gut to throat. something was wrong. she’d felt it, as the hours ticked on by the last couple days. as her feet carried her, unwilling, up to their front door. something happened. people made claims, sometimes, that you can feel when you’ve lost something — or rather, someone. there’s a hollow that begins to creep into chest, to the heart, that eats away at it — picks at the memory and the love and the last bit of soul that’s left of them, in the world, that live inside you—

the vast majority of this section is highly personally sewn together and integral to how i portray her. anyone i write with is free to reference this section to respond to anything i either send you from my nancy or in threads, plotting, etc! i am heavily leaning into the fact that her canon ability is not normal in the slightest, you can call it a type of witchcraft, however it is a long-standing, lifetime-repeated pact with a devil, deity of unknown name - who truly knows what it is or how she obtained it.writing partners are free to use this as reference and guideline and run wild with it in responses with my portrayal of her!A NOTE : her abilities may undergo some minor alterations to fit better within DBD verses, with respect to being in the Entity's Realm, if needed. So what's currently here may, may not be entirely how it translates over at a later date. I've played a fair bit of DBD - the lore, however, is alot to catch up on. I do, however, at least partly believe that in a way, Nancy willingly walked into the Fog when it appeared to her.She was following something - and she could tell it had gone in before her.

  TRACKING.  nancy's capabilities of tracking are unnatural - she does not often use traditional means in order to follow her targets from the shadows. her tracking ability allows her, for a period of time, to see through the eyes of her victims, visualizing a rough image in her minds' eye of where they are on the vast sawyer property. her hearing in this state is HIGHLY SENSITIVE - she can hear noises from quite a distance away if she's able to concentrate without interruption.

𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒.
— with nancy's tracking, she can only properly use this ability either when she is nearby her victim, or when they are within the confines of the entire sawyer - hewitt territories. by that i quite literally mean: every single inch, every acre, every building, every tree line, every field on their combined properties she is capable of tracking on. this is accomplished with a consistent schedule of, over the span of a weekend every so often, she must go around the entirety of the properties and re-mark rune-like symbols to encompass their land, re-strengthen those boundaries. if she does not freshen them up, its like a scent marker: it fades away, and the weaker it becomes the weaker her tracking becomes, the more blurred the image in her mind's eye shows her.𝐏𝐇𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 & 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐎𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑.
— her tracking does take a toll on her when she uses it - the drawback and deterrent from her overdoing herself. her mind becomes foggy, vision twisting and spinning the world around her. she becomes temporarily disoriented and must allow herself a few moments to recollect herself. she will often try to find one of sissy's wildflower poison stations scattered all over the properties to help regain focus and clarity. unlike the familys' victims, nancy has developed a high tolerance to venom and poison in many forms, something she does in her spare time. a hobby if you will.𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐒.
— relatively minor in respect to when nancy dabbles in a bit of possession, victims to her tracking - upon her taking over and then 'returning their eyes' so to speak - will feel a sense of disorentation and confusion, dizziness and a brief moment of uncertainty of where they are. it passes fairly quickly, however they will know something isn't quite right with what they just experienced. its unsettling, unnerving, to have someone seemingly take control of one of your senses.When it comes to any DBD type setting, her tracking ability acts like aura perks - nancy, and other members of the family, are able to see where trespassers are sneaking about - whether quite literally, like their bodies being 'highlighted' from afar and through structures ; or similar to how she can see them, in their minds' eye. and like when survivors wipe away the hags' traps, nancys' runes are hidden but findable - they can be re-marked, and wiped away.

  POSSESSION.  𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒.
— proximity to or visual on a victim is crucial for nancy to be able to possess. the closer she is, the stronger her hold is to the host. HOWEVER, nancy is capable of possession in alternate ways, should the victim not be nearby or in direct line of sight. mirrors, reflective surfaces like water can be utilized by her - so long as she has a clear view through it. mirrors are claimed to be gateways to the soul / the dead, and for nancy's unnatural abilities, she can use mirrors as a gateway in order to possess someone long-distance if necessary, so long as they are within view of a mirror.
— for example: how she manages to possess thomas all the way from hers and the sawyer properties to the hewitts? because he spends most of his time in the basement of the hewitt home - where he has a mirror on one of the support beams. so long as he is in view of that mirror from her end? she can possess him. the distance, however, does make it difficult to bounce back to her normal self when she stops, so its something she does carefully.𝐏𝐇𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 & 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐎𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑.
— possessing someone for nancy is a far more daunting task than simply tracking them. it uses up more physical energy than she cares for, especially in situations where she uses the possessed to inflict harm - be it on themselves or others. should the host be injured in any capacity as she is actively possessing them, she will suffer mirrored internal wounds - not nearly as bad as the hosts', but enough to make an impact on her own body, cause enough pain to temporarily subdue her.
— it is why she will prefer to use stronger, larger, tanking types of victims to latch her claws into. it will also take a while longer for her to grow re-accustomed to returning to her own body - re-familiarize herself within her own skin and organ. ( this is usually the best opportune time to kill her, if i'm being frank about it. ) otherwise, mid-possession, the only way to stop her from using another is to directly attack her own body - doing so, with enough force, will knock her back into her own.𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐒.
— those who nancy takes on as host during her possession are otherwise completely at her dispense, it is incredibly difficult for the host themselves to break free of her grasp once she's garnered control. many physically strong and strong of mind have crumbled under her control. as for side effects they may encounter, it is a feeling of disconnect from their bodies for a period when she's ripped out of them. they feel lost, unfamiliar - radio static throughout their bones, waves of pain from any sustained injury hitting them in one solid blow. air feels sharp, cold, harsh and unnatural filling and expelling itself from lungs. it is like stepping into a skin suit that is not yours, despite it very much being so. it is relearning how your own body moves, feels things, sees things.When it comes to any DBD type setting, nancys' possessions again, can be stopped by finding and attacking her directly to 'knock her out' from the possessed body and mind. she is immobile while in control - hidden, but one is able to break that concentration. mirrors will appear across the realms, in all sorts of places and angles. these are able to be taken down and shattered, however. theres a limited number of them that will spawn in - finding them is the issue.

Luda Mae Hewitt, née Sawyer, was born in 1909 to Carter and Jeanine Warren, and is the younger sister to her brother, "Old" Monty. She grew up as her mothers' shadow, often helping her with chores around the house, especially once the first World War came about and her father was sent off overseas. Having to grow up as a young child with so many responsibilities and stresses, Luda Mae was oddly "mature" for her age - even by that times' standards.Never having received a proper formal education - as their family struggled already, let alone once their lone breadwinner was away at war - Luda Mae was far more socially intelligent than she ever was book smart, and her more social pluses at the time eventually brought her into the sights at age 15 of her eventual husband: Charlton Hewitt.Charlton was a charming and charismatic young man - five years her senior. They were 15 and 20 when they first met, and by the time she was nearing 17 he had already been attempting to court her for several months. Luda Mae however did not return most of his attempted advances for quite some time, believing him to be careless and disruptive and disloyal with how many other girls' seemed to fawn over him. However, like many before her, his charms eventually wore down her defenses and at 17 she began to date him, and within the year they were engaged. She had just turned 18 when they officially married.They married in 1927, and soon had gotten pregnant with Charlton "Charlie" Hewitt Jr.Charlie was nothing short of a rather chaotic and destructive child growing up. Though loved dearly by his mother, even she could not deny that he was a handful and his upbringing was stressful. And that only worsened in 1939 when Luda Mae, nine years after having Charlie, came home one day from work after finding a newborn tossed carelessly away in the trash - weeks after her husband would be sent off to fight in the second World War. While Charlie, once he was older, would on occasion take his fathers' rages upon himself to spare his mother, Thomas would quietly go to his mothers' side, and desperately try to help her in any way he could - be it by handing her rags and bandages, or hugging her when she wept, he always tried to make her smile after the turmoil started to settle for the night.Over time, the abuse became too much for Luda Mae to bear any longer. She'd come to realize that she had lost herself once getting with Charlton all those years ago, becoming far too complacent and submitting to him to appease his tempers. And she could stand it no longer.In the summer of '52, during the blazing Texas heat, when tempers rise with it and patience flies out the door, Luda Mae's vision ran red after Charlton had once again locked Thomas away in a fit of rage. NOTE : My portrayal of Thomas will touch on certain mental concerns that I feel he likely has. As canon doesn't exactly pinpoint direct issues and many fanon's I've seen have portrayed him with a variety of concerns, I'm sticking to what I personally view him as having. Some may not agree with them or think there's more, that's fine, but I will be focusing on my own thoughts on him.- He is selectively mute. Being relentlessly bullied and abused in his youth by peers and his adoptive father, Thomas developed the anxiety disorder that when he is around those he does not know or does not trust too well, he will very rarely speak out loud. He becomes nonverbal, averts eye-contact, wrings his hands and clothes, nervously fiddles with things in these circumstances.- He suffers from anxiety in general, and is fairly co-dependent on his remaining family. This often leaves him vulnerable to being easily manipulated - particularly by Charlie.- He has severe esteem and body issues and often resorts to self mutilation / self harm when he gets extremely agitated, overstimulated, or scared. He has been conditioned to a degree by Hoyt to view those outside the family as only threats however, and all he wants is to keep his family safe.
